Let me tell you a little about me.
I have been practicing therapy since 2008 and a licensed therapist since 2013 with the Board of Behavioral Services (California LMFT #53944). Although I am a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I currently reside in New York City. Moving out here has allowed me to expand experience beyond therapy with other social service opportunities as well as additional context and skills to my work as a therapist.
My journey to becoming a therapist started with me wanting to become a math teacher and exploring this idea through a tutoring job. I loved my job but quickly recognized the challenges of teaching middle school students what they needed to know to be successful in the classroom while they were focused on what was going on with their friends, family, and community. One of my strongest memories of this was when I was working with a 6th grader on math who was having trouble focusing on his homework. He was too worried about the safety of his family due to the violence in his neighborhood to focus on school. And I get it- the need to be safe trumped everything else in his life. We ended up closing the books so he could talk to someone about his concerns. At that point, I realized that therapy was my path.
